Coorg, also known as the “Scotland of India,” is a beautiful destination to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily routine in Bangalore. Located about 250 km away, Coorg can be easily reached via the newly laid NH 275. As we drove towards Coorg, the Kaveri river streams and the lush coconut palm trees alongside the road welcomed us, making the journey even more delightful.

Contrary to popular belief, we discovered that Coorg is not too hot even in the month of April 1st week. During our stay at Club Mahindra Madikeri, we had access to a plethora of activities, including bungee jumping, bird watching, and five levels of rope adventure activities. The resort also offered a guided bike trail that took us through offbeat tracks, paddy fields, and coffee plantations. Our favourite stop was at a coffee plantation, where we took in the breathtaking view of the valley and clicked some amazing photos. We also went on a 30-minute trek down to the head of Abbey Falls, which was a refreshing and adventurous experience.

Club Mahindra Madikeri is an ideal place for birdwatching enthusiasts. We were amazed by the variety of birds we spotted just by sitting still in the resort. Some of the rare birds we saw included the Malabar Whistling Thrush, Drongo Pairs, and Golden Back Bird. We were also lucky to witness the majestic Malabar Grey Hornbill and hear its unique voice.

In addition to the activities at the resort, we also explored the nearby attractions in Madikeri. Watching the sunset from Raja’s Seat was an experience not to be missed. We also visited Tala Cauvery, the birthplace of the Cauvery river, and the 300-year-old Shri Bhagandeshwara temple in Bhagamandala, where we had the opportunity to participate in the temple’s longstanding tradition of Anna Seva (free lunch).
During our return journey to the resort, we made a delightful stop at Pappy’s coffee plantation. The team there was incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable, taking us on a 30-45 minute tour of their coffee plantation. We discovered a wealth of information about various plants, such as the different types of coffee plants, bird’s eye chillies, and even fruit trees. It was an insightful and educational experience that we won’t forget anytime soon.

Overall, Coorg proved to be a wonderful destination that exceeded our expectations. From the beautiful scenery to the abundance of activities, it is definitely worth a visit.
